FMCA EXPO New Dates/GoFundMe/Tangible Donations

Posted on Oct 02 in Member Blog

Dear Members,

We heard back from the hotel today with the new dates. We will be having the FMCA Expo on the weekend of January 6th through the 8th of 2023. We will put a formal advertisement out soon. I just wanted to get this message to everyone now for any planning that needs to happen right away. This was the only weekend available to us without affecting our rates. It is our plan to keep the format exactly as planned. Thank you again for your patience and working with us so that we can focus on our members in need.

Speaking of our members, we received 2 more calls today with members that were devastated by Hurricane Ian. I am sure that as the days pass, we will hear from more members. It really is sad! We want to do everything we can to assist all of them. I have set up a GoFundMe account with a goal of $100,000. I have pledged $1,000.00 to show my commitment to this organization including our membership. I am hoping that we can come close or exceed this goal so that we can make a meaningful impact for our members in need. See the process for collecting written in the GoFundMe App. Here is the link:

https://gofund.me/9e8a759c

We are also looking for tangible donations as we have had many members call and state that they have barges, floating platforms, gas cans, generators, paper goods, personal hygiene supplies, food and so on that they would like to loan or donate. If you have something that you feel could help, please reach out to me (John Loftis) at John@loftismarine.com or Kelly at kelly@kwhiteinsurance.com. We will connect you with the person in need to work out getting the item from you and into the hands of the member in need. If you do donate, please keep good record for tax purposes.

Last, I have created a Telegram Messaging Group for everyone to join that wants to get messages out right away. We have been using this tool for our company for years and it is very effective. First, you will need to download the Telegram Messaging App from your app store or at this link:

https://telegram.org/

Once you have done so, you can click on this link to add you to the group:

https://t.me/+wpVN0Yw2NgEzMzFh

I will be getting info out to the membership using this FMCA Telegram app as my primary.

Thanks to ALL of you for your help!

Respectfully,

John Loftis

IMPORTANT INFO: FLORIDA MARINE CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION EXPO POSTPONED

Posted on Oct 01 in Member Blog

Dear Valued FMCA Membership, Vendors and Sponsors,

I know we were all looking forward to attending the FMCA Expo this coming October 7th & 8th. I certainly was excited to see all of you. Unfortunately, after Hurricane Ian’s impacts on most of the State of Florida, we are making the decision to postpone this event until sometime in January of 2023. We are waiting to hear back from the hotel the available dates and then we will follow back up to you with the new information.

This wasn’t an easy decision for us. There are just too many factors working against having a successful event if we push this one forward now. We have many members that have lost everything in the storm. We have many vendors that are needing to travel to the affected areas to check in on their clients and projects instead of attending the Expo. The hotel while still functional will not be at 100%. They are still reviewing the property for an assessment of damage. They have seawall and beach access damage, banquet and hotel rooms with water intrusion as well as limited staff due to their own homes being destroyed in the storm. Not sure of the condition of Daytona Beach itself. Needless to say, all of this was considered in our decision.

I struggled with this decision for 2 days but after seeking advice from the Executive Board, our Executive Director: Kelly White, the hotel and some of our members including the vendors, we all agree that our time could be better spent focusing on the members in need right now. I certainly want to see our industry connect all in one place and hope that January gets here soon.

Just to reiterate, this is a postponement only until sometime in January. We will clear up the exact dates soon. We intend on keeping the exact same format as originally planned. If you have any questions or concerns, please email myself or Kelly White with them and we will respond asap.

Respectfully,

John Loftis

HURRICANE IAN AFTERMATH

Posted on Sep 29 in News

DEAR FMCA MEMBERS,

Hurricane Ian was extremely devastating to much of the lower half of Florida. It’s hard to even digest what some of you are having to go through right now. Thoughts and Prayers for ALL of you!

Here is a list of measures I have moved forward today as follows:

1. I have sought the FMCA Officers and Board to approve a GoFundMe page that we can use to raise funds to help those members who have been negatively affected by Hurricane Ian. Once I have Board approval, I will move this forward.

2. I have asked for volunteers to establish a committee of members that are available to seek out donations from different individuals and businesses that would give us tangible goods to send to the members in need.

3. I have been and will continue to try to reach all of the members that are in the storm affected areas to see if you are ok or what you might need.

If you receive this and are ok, please send a quick email or text or call me at 850-572-3718 to let me know how you are doing. I will be in touch with more shortly!

Respectfully,

John Loftis
President of FMCA
